Certificate of Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance

State law requires an inspection of the smoke alarm(s), carbon monoxide alarm(s), and portable fire extinguisher(s) before the sale, transfer or rental of residential property can occur. N.J.A.C. 5:70-4.19
Inspections are performed by the Borough's Fire Official every Wednesday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Certificates are issued on site at the time of inspection, and are valid for six (6) months or until another change in occupancy occurs, whichever comes first.
STEP 1: CLICK HERE for the application, paying close attention to the accompanying instructions regarding the proper type and placement of the required devices.
STEP 2: Mail or bring your application to the Building Department, along with the applicable fee in exact cash or check payable to Borough of Ringwood.
TIP: We suggest that you not wait until close to the closing to schedule the inspection – if the inspection fails, you will need to reapply for the next available inspection date, and consequently, the closing may be delayed.
